Guenter's Biography:

I was born in Wuerzburg, Germany.  My Father was a Master Blacksmith and I became familiar with art and design since youth.

1960 - First supported and encouraged by Studien Professor Buechl.

1963 - Wuerzburg, Bavaria. First participation in a group exhibition.

Near our studio in Bavaria, Germany

1964 - Apprenticeship, education and cooperation with the academic painter, Dieter Lukas-Larsen, (student of Oskar Kokoschka), in his studios in Duesseldorf and Hamburg, Germany. This master of art gave guidelines for artistic development that have deeply influenced me ever since.
For example:

  • Look behind the face of  things. Try to express the character and the soul.

  • It's an obligation for an artist to use his given talent to take positive influence to others and society

  • Everything in a painting which is not useful, harms it and has to be avoided.

  • Reduction is often more important then addition.

1969 - Continued with personal and artistic endeavours, attended seminars and working every year for weeks in Lukas-Larsen studios.  Often challenged by being involved in extensive commissions. First introduction to Gallery owner Inge Burragents of fine art in Germany. In 1969 I married wife Inge and also worked as a government employee.

1975 - Increased painting activities. Exhibitions in galleries all over Germany.

1982 - paintings were for the first time presented at one of Germany's most important art fairs “Ambiente Frankfurt”.  My work work is now presented in the Fair twice a year in the spring and fall.

1989 - My wife Inge started her own gallery in downtown Bamberg, Bavaria, showing also international artists from all over the world.

1992 - Worked fulltime as a self employed artist, also doing workshops and seminars teaching & instructing students to use the Kokoschka guidelines.

2000 - Intense relationship with art agents in Germany, Kunsthandel Hans Bartke, Moenesee.  First contact and orders from the Arnot-Art Galleries in New York.

2001 - Immigration to Nova Scotia, Canada.  Inge & I started a horse breeding business, Blue Raven Farm, in Moose Brook on the shores of the Minas Basin.  The Basin is a part of the Bay of Fundy, the famous home of the world's highest tides, and we breed registered Fjord Horses.  They like the climate here!

2002 -  Continued working as a professional artist. Influenced by the Minas Basin shore line and the Nova Scotia landscape. Created more and more paintings with these themes. Continued cooperation with art agents and the European gallery scene, also selling more paintings to the Arnot-Galleries, in New York.

2003 - First exhibition in Nova Scotia in the Avon Emporium Summerville with paintings of local landscapes.
Participated in the Avon-River-Heritage Society Art Show at the Avon River Heritage Museum in Avondale. Work was praised and acknowledged by the former Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.

2004 - Set up the small Burncoat Lighthouse Gallery and hung the first show at Burncoat Head Park. (Located near Guenter's studio in Moose Brook, Burncoat Head is the actual recording site for the world's highest tides.)

Working Group, The Place Near & Far Gallery, Kenentcook2005 - Participated in the exhibition in Gallery 215 Maitland, Nova Scotia.  Participated in the Sam Slick exhibition in Windsor, Nova Scotia.

2006 - Member of the Working Group for “The Place Near and Far Art Gallery & Workshop”, Kennetcook, Nova Scotia and serving there Guenter's Kennetcook exhibit...under the 2006/7 season. Participated in two exhibitions in 2006 as well as a painting demo at the Gallery.

December 2006: invitation to show paintings at the Exposition, February 2007 at Arnot Art Gallery in New York City.
